Children express themselves through their clothes and that’s no news!
Though it is proven that clothes affect and reflect our self-image and while this is something well-known to the adult world, it surely applies about children’s clothes as well and their self-expression through them. In fact, it’s one of their first forms of expression and it’s truly something magical to watch.
Adults usually overthink or at times, do not spend much time thinking what to wear and why. But when they become parents, they sure like spending time dressing their little puddle of joy! Who wouldn’t want to spend time dressing up their child beautifully?
All of the sudden, when you become a parent, you stop spending so much time thinking what to wear, but rather divide that time ( if not offer all of it ) to dress your child. You want your toddler to feel good, to look good through what they wear!
While that role is fun, it will soon be replaced with your child’s need to dress up on their own and to ultimately express themselves through what they wear. And that is so important to let our children choose what they wear , according to Parent’s Magazine.
And this is where the magic begins. If you pay close attention, you can learn so many things about your child’s personality, their psychology, their creative side. While we, as adults, use a million ways to express ourselves, your child will choose less and more specific ways to show their emotions.
We are talking about wild, raw imagination! So be prepared to witness a fashion that in your eyes makes absolutely no sense, but in their eyes it may look like a king, a queen, a brave warrior, a legendary little scientist, a courageous fireman! Though their choice of clothing might not have a specific character, their choices are their whisper of secrets to our ears!
Connect with your child even more by participating in their choice of clothing, asking them questions to why they chose what they chose and how it does make them feel about it! Be a part of it and be sure that your child will reward you with unique answers because it’s a form of their self-expression and they don’t know, but you do!
So, next time you see your child wearing something that makes absolutely no sense at all, try seeing behind the picture, because every piece of clothing is a peak into your child’s inner world!
And now, it’s your turn! Please comment below and share with us your personal experience with your child’s choice of clothing!
